For the past 4 months the South Western School board has been working on and discussing the matter of having a bathroom policy that would both protect gender identity students and non gender identified students and give them both privacy while still allowing their parents to be involved in whether they change their gender identity or if there is a conflict again in the restrooms. That policy was policy 711. Which they had voted on last night after finally making some proposals to the policy and amendments.
The other situation that was mentioned that took 3 -4 hours to discuss was the 75 million highschool renovation which would include to either lift the cafeteria ceiling or not to lift the ceiling and save money as well as getting new bleachers and rotating the gymnasium getting new floors. Plus getting new lockers and titles in the walls as well. That vote went to 7-1 no vote with the all but one wanting to get it done. This renovation will cost taxpayers more money so your school district taxes will be going up even more in the future.
The other issues that are mentioned are that South Western School District teachers are becoming stressed out from teaching from over the years. As well as School Board members transparency with their agenda things like the building renovation plan they talked about last night were not shown to the attendees of the meeting or alternates they mentioned. Or the Autism Planning Program which says it’s attached to the agenda was never attached. Which also goes along with the deletion of the Livestream meetings on YouTube.
The other thing that needs to go the districts $15B Title 1 program that targets poor schools to fund them but in reality it displaces the their own funding and doesn’t put poor schools no further ahead then without funding. For the past 8 years or more Federal Government has tried to help fund public education to higher testing scores with programs like No Child Left Behind, Head Start Program,ESEA, Common Core, which all programs have failed to increase education levels and wasted taxpayers money on. South Western School District needs to get rid of Title 1 Program. Federal funding could also be funding for Social Emotional Learning Programs in South Western School District which is another reason to get rid of Federal Funding in the school district.
